Canon unveiled its latest mirrorless interchangeable lens camera this morning, the EOS M6, which features a 24.2-megapixel APS-C CMOS image sensor. The Canon EOS M6 has the same speedy Dual Pixel CMOS AF (autofocus) system as the company’s flagship mirrorless camera, the M5.

We had some brief hands-on time with the new Canon EOS M6 before this morning's launch and have included some images of this surprisingly compact mirrorless camera with this story.

Canon also announced an optional external electronic viewfinder – the EVF-DC2 – for the M6, which with offers approximately 2.36 million dots of resolution.

Here’s a rundown of the key specs of the M6, which replaces the M3 in Canon’s mirrorless camera lineup.

• High-speed continuous shooting at up to 7 frames per second (fps) (up to 9.0 fps with AF Lock)

• Built-in Wi-Fi, NFC and Bluetooth technology

• 3-inch tilt-type touchscreen LCD

• Compatible with EF, EF-S and EF-M lenses & select EOS System accessories

The new Canon EOS M6 camera will come in black and silver and is slated to go on sale in April 2017 for $779.99, body only. It will also be sold as part of a kit with the EF-M 15-45mm/F3.5-6.3 IS STM zoom kit lens for $899.99, or with the EF-M 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens for $1,279.99.
