These Are the Most Common MISTAKES to AVOID When Using a Wide-Angle Lens (VIDEO)
Landscapes and wide-angle lenses go together like peanut butter and jelly. After all, if you're going to capture a sweeping scene, you might as well use something wide that can capture all of it, right?
While that may be true, wide-angle lenses aren't a panacea in landscape photography. In fact, there are lots of ways you can use a wide-angle lens incorrectly, so your images turn out dull. In the below video, pro photographer Mark Denney discusses beginner wide-angle mistakes to avoid in landscape photography
"I think without a doubt a wide-angle lens is by far the most popular choice of lens to start with for landscape photography, but there are some drawbacks and mistakes to avoid when using these ultra-wide focal lengths," Denney says. "The field of view when using a wide angle lens is such a stark departure from what we see on a daily basis with our eyes that it can make the effective use of such a wide focal length challenging in certain situations."
In the below video, Denney shares what he calls "the most egregious wide-angle mistakes" he made when he first started out in landscape photography and how to best solve them.
"Now I haven't completely solved for all of these as some of them still creep into my workflow from time to time, even during my most recent on-location video just last week," he admits. "But being aware of these mistakes is the best first step in the effort to fully eradicate them from your wide-angle landscape photography."
