I took this shot early in the morning at the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve, about an hour outside the city of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. The last Arabian Oryx was shot in Oman in the 1960's. Thanks to a dedicated conservation effort, the species was brought back from extinction through a breeding program using animals from various zoos and private collections. This Arabian Oryx was just one of the many that have now been reintroduced into the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve. The rest of the herd was nearby, but I liked the symbolism of this one animal standing alone among the rolling dunes.
