Witness Amazing: New Roller Pro from Peak Design
Peak Design's new Roller Pro Carry-On is a prayer answered for photographers, video content creators, carriers of miscellaneous valuable things and travelers everywhere. Forget everything you know about rolling suitcases—this is an all-new species of luggage that is certain to upend this segment of the camera carry-conveyance market for a long time to come.
Peak Design is best known for creating the camera industry's favorite straps, bags and photo backpacks. I'm openly fond of their products and use them daily for personal and professional applications.
With the launch of the new Peak Design Roller Pro Carry-On via Kickstarter, they've reimagined nearly every component of the popular rolling bag carry solution and created an entirely new beast. We'll get to the key feature highlights momentarily. Or you can watch the eye-opening video here.
No stranger to crowdfunding, Peak Design has raised $40M across 13 Kickstarter campaigns over the years, making them one of the world's most successful crowdfunded companies. Shutterbug generally does not cover products that are "still in crowdfunding," but this item is an exciting exception.
This Kickstarter campaign began only days ago and has already received 10,464 backers and $5,589,176 in pledges against the $100,000 goal—with 41 days to go! The crowdfunding wraps up on 17-April—don't miss out.
Key Feature Innovations
Let's start with the SlimDrive low-profile carbon fiber handle. It's constructed using single-stage flat carbon fiber tubes, so it's more rigid and only 1/3 the size of conventional handles. This design delivers more space inside where you need it.
The exterior construction is a hybrid of a lightweight, durable polycarbonate shell covered with Peak Design’s traditional fabric. The roller features a highly functional "drawbridge opening" to facilitate easy packing and unpacking, even in cramped spaces like the backseat of your cousin's Prius. And of course it has a perfectly-positioned pocket to accommodate a 16-inch laptop or big tablet. The native capacity is 34L (Liters) but it's expandable to 39L (by about 15%).
For us camera/video folks, Peak Design simultaneously has announced a brand new X-Large sized Camera Cube that glove-fits inside the Roller Pro Carry-On and holds a 400mm prime lens. It's just one of the many cubes, packs, pouches and tech bags Peak Design offers to simplify the lives of wired-up travelers.
The Peak Design Pro Roller Carry-On is small enough (14 x 9 x 22 inches) to qualify as carry-on for most airlines (check your carrier just to be sure). Weight is 8.9 pounds (3.9 kg).
Availability
The new Peak Design Roller Pro Carry-On is expected to ship to Kickstarter backers in June 2025, with a full release on peakdesign.com, Amazon and global retailers by August 2025 in three colorways: Black, Eclipse and Sage. As with all things in life, dates and prices are susceptible to change prior to launch.
