Watch How the 35mm vs 50mm vs 85mm Lenses Compare for Portraits (Jessica Whitaker VIDEO)

There's a world of difference to how different prime lenses affect portrait photography. Earlier this week we shared a video comparing how four different primes handled portraits, and now here's one from Jessica Whitaker, this time showing how the 35mm vs 50mm vs 85mm stack up.

"I am really excited to bring you this instructional photography tutorial," Whitaker says. "I am demonstrating the differences between three popular fixed focal lengths: a 35mm, 50mm, and 85mm. I begin with side-by-side differences with the same pose. Next, we do a set of images where I use each lens how I typically would in a photoshoot. Lastly, we go indoors and use all natural window light so you can really get a feel for the proximity that comes with each focal length."

The lenses Whitaker uses are the Canon 35mm f/1.4, Canon 50mm f/1.2 and Canon 85mm f/1.2.

If you're in the market for a new prime, Whitaker's video is a must-see to help you make your purchasing decision. After you watch it, go check out her YouTube channel for more awesome photo videos.

You should also watch this portrait photography video from photographer Julia Trotti where she compares her entire arsenal of prime lenses: 24mm vs 35mm vs 50mm vs 85mm vs 135mm.
