This Simple Camera Trick Will Improve Your Landscape Photos Instantly (VIDEO)
There's an easy way to improve your landscape photos quickly and all it involves is thinking negatively. No, not negatively like having a bad attitude about your photography but thinking about "negative space" in your image.
Landscape pro Mark Denney shows you how in the below video where he demonstrates his simple creative camera skill and explains how to utilize it in your photography.
"In this week’s episode, we discuss how you can improve your landscape photography with negative space," Denney says. "But not the negative space inside your photograph, rather the negative space outside the frame."
While the technique might sound counterintuitive for landscape photography, it's actually very effective in creating visual drama in your images.
"I know it sounds a bit odd, but I promise by the end of the video it'll all come full circle," he notes. "This has been one of the most eye-opening projects I've ever worked on, and my hope is that it'll be something that you might like to try within your own photography as well."
He adds that this is not about taking a minimalistic approach to landscape photography but rather seeking out "the negative space you can't see" in an image. It's actually quite similar to the old news photography axiom of "filling the frame" in your photos.
"Have you ever heard the saying: 'Photography is an exclusionary art. What you exclude is just as important as what you include.' Now this is something I heard quite a few years ago that has really stuck with me."
