Olympus Launches Tough and Compact New Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark III Mirrorless Camera
Olympus launched the 20.4MP OM-D E-M1 Mark III mirrorless camera this morning. The Mark III is the latest in Olympus' well-reviewed line of tough and rugged pro-level E-M1 interchangeable lens cameras, which use smaller Micro Four Thirds image sensors.
The new Olympus E-M1 Mark III, which goes on sale on February 24, 2020, for $1799.99 (body only), has a new TruePic IX processing engine, allowing the camera to capture a 50MP high resolution shot. The compact and relatively lightweight E-M1 Mark III is built in a dustproof splashproof, and freezeproof magnesium alloy body, which lets you shoot in harsh conditions without breaking down.
We put those claims to the test with the previous model in this line – the E-M1 Mark II – by successfully shooting with it in stormy conditions in Iceland. We also tested the Mark II by photographing eagles in Alaska and named it one of the best cameras of 2017.
The new Olympus E-M1 Mark III has in-body 5-axis image stabilization, along with a host of other features including 15 frames per second (mechanical) and 60 frame per second (electronic) continuous shooting and Cinema 4K video capture, in a portable but solid black camera body.
"This reliable, compact and lightweight body offers the world’s most effective 7.5 shutter speed steps of compensation," Olympus said in a press announcement this morning. "The OM-D E-M1 Mark III is also equipped with a 121-point all cross-type On-chip Phase Detection AF sensor for high-precision focusing. Starry Sky AF delivers revolutionary autofocus performance for astrophotography, and the Advanced Face / Eye Priority AF tracks and ensures the subject’s eye is continuously in focus, resulting in a crisp, clear portrait. This model is also equipped with versatile features that were popular on the Olympus OM-D E-M1X, such as 50MP Handheld High Res Shot, Live ND, Pro Capture mode, and handheld 4K video, thanks to its 5-axis In-Body Image Stabilization, designed to meet the demands of the professional photographer."
Other features in the Olympus E-M1 Mark III include a 3-inch vari-angle LCD touchscreen on back, a 2.6M-dot OLED electronic viewfinder, and 18 frames per second electronic silent mode shooting. Below is all the official pricing and availability of the new E-M1 Mark III according to Olympus' press annoucement this morning.
