Johnny Tang’s Eye-Catching Self-Portraits Are Definitely Not Your Typical “Selfies”
It’s been a long week, so we though we’d share some impressive eye candy from conceptual fine art photographer Johnny Tang, who says, “I love making art that’s easy on the eyes.” His humorous and minding-bending self-portraits are both creative and fun to observe.
The 32-year-old Taiwanese American received his BFA from Savannah College of Art and Design, and uses his art background to create photographs that are somewhat surreal. He says his images are intended to challenge the mind and “marinate for a second” before being fully understood.
Tang’s unique self-portraits have been widely displayed and are currently on view at Carroll and Sons Gallery in Boston as part of the Boston Drawing Project.
In addition to his photography, Tang says he’s passionate about painting, sculpture and design. His photography conveys both a great sense of humor as well as influences from Asian pop culture.
Tang explains, “I am able to pay homage to both my cultural backgrounds to create a dynamic fusion that my photo works express.”
You can see more of Tang’s work on his website and on an Instagram page devoted to his imagery. And don’t forget to follow us on Instagram at @ShutterbugPix where we’re sharing our favorite photos from our followers.
