Remember with shots like this to not go for the 2.8 aperture, but rather a higher one to carry the clearity through the focus plane. Being as close as you are to the eye, I would set my camera up on manual at Shutter speed 250 (minimum) Aperture f.11 (or close to it)and ISO 200-400.

Remember that the above recipe will get you around the area of a really clear shot, but most likely you will need additional experimenting to get "the perfect" results.
