We just returned from the 33rd Photokina World of Imaging in Germany, and if there were any questions about the rate of excitement and technical innovation within our industry they were quickly answered. Some 185,000 visitors from over 160 countries once again flocked to Cologne for photography's bellwether event. On the exhibitor side 1,074 companies from 51 countries were represented, illustrating the degree to which imaging technologies play a roll in virtually every aspect of our lives.

The Bronx River Art Center (located at 305 East 140th Street, Bronx, NY 10460) will host the exhibit titled Lionel Cruet: In Between, Real And Digital—on view from September 19 to October 11, 2014. The exhibit, curated by Karine Duteil, will feature Cruet’s recent artworks that utilize digital platforms to encourage viewers to discuss geopolitics, nature and technology. Video is projected on to raw canvas to evoke water and other natural phenomena, an innovative presentation designed to blur the boundary line between virtual and real environments.

Adobe has announced Photoshop Elements 13 and Premiere Elements 13, which are the latest versions of Adobe’s popular consumer photo and video editing software. In a move that is sure to spark outrage amongst nature and wildlife photographers, the U.S. Forest Service wants photographers to pay for a $1,500 permit if they plan to shoot images on Federally-owned wilderness areas. Permits would be required even if you’re shooting images or video with a smartphone.
