Photo sharing and printing options are becoming more interesting every day.
HP has announced that customers of its Snapfish online photo service can now
order prints online and have them ready for pickup in as little as one hour
at their local Walgreens. The in-store service applies to sizes 4x6 through
8x10 inches. The service is first rolling out for Walgreens locations in Boston,
New York and San Francisco. By late September HP anticipates that the service
will expand to over 4000 Walgreens locations.

That fluffy white stuff on the ground may look pretty but it poses some of the more difficult challenges for intrepid outdoor shooters, whether the task is landscapes, wildlife imagery, skiers on the slopes, or environmental portraits. This tutorial from the Light Meets Lens YouTube channel explains everything you need to know in barely eight minute for capturing snow scenes that look like they did in the field.

Heading home on New Year’s Day after dropping off a family friend at the bus station, Peter Baumgarten runs into a blinding snowstorm. “Whiteout conditions,” he says, “almost impossible to see 10 feet in front of me, trying to make out car tracks to follow, but they’re completely covered.” After about 20 minutes of anxious struggle through blinding snow, he’s had enough, and he pulls over near a little park in the small town he and his wife, Christianna, are trying to drive through. With a sigh of relief, he lets the stress dissipate.

Our local supermarket has Halloween candy and scary witches on display, so that can mean only one thing in New Jersey—school is about to open. Annually, each and every elementary school student produces, on average, 331* metric tons of precious artwork; add another 11* tons if they attend summer camp. Some of the items are small enough to fit on the refrigerator door, and all of them are worth keeping forever. Short of renting offsite storage space to house and curate their youngsters' souvenirs of academia, how do sentimental parents cope?

Back in the days of film, many of us who considered ourselves “serious” photographers had an arsenal that not only included an SLR system with a myriad of lenses, flash equipment and other accessories, but a high–end pocket camera that offered a “premium” lens and a complete array of manual controls. The idea, of course, was that with one of these little wonders you would always have a capable camera on hand for those unexpected opportunities—even on days when you left your SLR at home.
