Nikon Inc. is recalling EN-EL3 batteries as detailed in a service advisory
(issued Nov. 7. 2005) because of possible overheating and melting. The recall
involves over 700,000 affected battery packs (including 200,000 in the US) that
were packaged with the Nikon D100, D70 and D50 and also sold as accessories
under model number 26265. Replacement will be free of charge. Although only
four incidents of problems have been reported to date, replacement of batteries
with the pertinent lot numbers is strongly recommended. Full specifics are available

Nikon just released free new firmware to upgrade its Z-Series full-frame mirrorless cameras: the 25.4MP Nikon Z6 and 45.7MP Nikon Z7. The new Nikon Z firmware adds a host of improvements to these two cameras including eye-detection autofocus (AF), better AF performance in low light, and auto-exposure tracking to continuous shooting high-speed (extended) mode, Nikon said.

Nikon D2X:

Using brand new innovations in sensor design and image processing, the D2X delivers
sharp images with very fine gradations of tone and 12.4 megapixel resolution.
Photographers are now rid of the dilemma of choosing between high resolution and
high speed, because even at a tremendous size of 12.4 megapixels, the D2X can
comfortably shoot full resolution images at 5 frames per second (up to 21 consecutive
JPEGs and 15 NEFs).

Nikon has shared more details about its forthcoming new Nikon D6 pro DSLR. The Nikon D6, which will go on sale in April 2020 for $6,499.95 (body) only, will use a FX-format (aka full frame) CMSO sensor with the same 20.8MP resolution as the previous model, the Nikon D5 from four years ago.
