On my initial visit to Northern California's Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge, I was rewarded when I spotted a young Bald Eagle near the end of the auto loop. Perched in a tall dead tree along side the road, it was my first encounter with the species, aside from zoo exhibits. What a tremendous thrill it was.
