I had heard a from several photographers in our area about a male Wood Duck who appeared to have chosen a female Mallard for his mate. I had never seen a Wood Duck before and so I went in search of him. I found him easily and had lots of opportunities to photograph him fairly close. He was so enamored with his pursuit of this female Mallard that he could have cared less how close you came to him. In this particular picture he was trying to impress her by scooping his beak continually in the water and the making little squeaking sounds.
Gear used: Nikon D600, Sigma150-500mm, shot at 400mm, ISO 1600, F/6.3, 1/1250sec. Hand held.
