On July 4, 1054, Chinese astronomers observed what they called a "guest star" emerge in our galaxy; the supernova, which resulted in the Crab Nebula, was recorded by the Anasazi, the Ancient Ones, at several sites; this painting, on the back wall of a shelter, was done in the backcountry of the Anza-Borrego Desert in southeastern California. Thanks to the seclusion of the alcove, the colors in the recess still retain their vibrancy. Nikon F3, 2.8/55 Nikkor micro, Bogen tripod with cable release. Kodachrome 64 processed normally, scanned by the photographer on a Nikon LS4000, minimal processing in CS3.
