Olympus Intros Stylus Tough TG-Tracker “Experiential” Camera with Ultra-Wide Lens, 4K Video & Field Sensors

Olympus introduced an unusual new durable compact camera this morning: the Stylus Tough TG-Tracker. Olympus is billing the Stylus Tough TG-Tracker as the company’s “first rugged experiential camera,” which combines a 204-degree ultra-wide-angle f/2.0 lens with Ultra HD 4K 30p video capture and an “advanced Field Sensor System” to shoot action video while recording related activity data.

The Stylus Tough TG-Tracker’s built-in Field Sensors include GPS, a barometric-pressure sensor, a temperature sensor, an e.Compass and an accelerometer. According to Olympus, data logs can be displayed simultaneously with recorded images using the Olympus Image Track app. This, the company says, enhances “the excitement of reliving outdoor action with an immersive, data-rich viewing experience.”

As with other Olympus Tough series cameras, the Stylus Tough TG-Tracker is designed to be used in difficult shooting conditions with five rugged capabilities: waterproof to depths of 100 feet, dustproof, shockproof from 7 feet, freezeproof to 14°F, and crushproof up to 220 pounds of force with no protective case required. The Stylus Tough TG-Tracker is a different take on the rugged compact camera category with its Field Sensor System capable of capturing location, altitude and depth, g-force and air and water temperature while users record videos and still images of their outdoor adventures.

An LED headlight is integrated into the camera body to help shoot in low-light conditions. The bundled SG-T01 Steady Grip helps with stable framing during hand-held shooting. The Olympus Stylus Tough TG-Tracker’s compact body and tilt-out LCD monitor are designed to provide quick and easy video capture, including low- and high-angle shooting.

The Olympus Stylus Tough TG-Tracker will come in green and black and goes on sale in June 2016 with an estimated street price of $349.99 (U.S.) and $479.99 (Canada).
