Annette and Dennis soon disappeared, or as we often say in New Orleans, they evacuated. On January 19, 2015, I was in my office when I heard that unmistakable screeching. I looked out my window and up at the nest that was still there. It reminded me of the first time we were able to enter our house in Lakeview following Hurricane Katrina. The two hawks must have been puzzled on their inspection tour and quickly flew away. I went up to the roof and once again looked at the empty nest. I heard the screeching and caught a glimpse of the hawks in the oaks in the next block. I walked down the street looking up and that's when I saw Annette. I started shooting her when suddenly, Dennis swoops in for the briefest of love affairs. The image was taken on 1-19-2015 at 1:59 p.m. with a Canon EOS 7D and a 300mm Canon Lens set at 1/3200s, f/4, ISO 400, auto white balance. Annette and Dennis did not return to Jesuit in spring 2015. In February 2016, they made an appearance and I was excited just thinking that I would be on "hawk watch" once again. Unfortunately, that did not happen. Instead, a pair of black crows staked out the nest a few weeks ago. And they're not budging.
