I spotted these fledgling barn swallows outside a footbridge at a local park. The parent would return every few minutes with a choice morsel, which it would then carefully deposit into the mouth of the chick. The food exchange took the merest fraction of a second. The positioning of the chicks determined which one got fed most often, and which one got little or nothing.
