During a recent Route 66 road trip I took a detour North in Arizona to visit Horseshoe Bend. My time was limited so there was just one opportunity for a sunset photo of the "Bend." The drive North was under an overcast sky and the prospects of taking a memorable photo diminished with every mile. Upon arrival at the parking lot I considered postponing the hike to the rim until morning. Fortunately I reconsidered. I made the short hike and took my place on the rim next to a young couple who decided they would take their shots while in the prone position. At the last minute the clouds broke revealing the sun in an amazing display of color.
This photo was taken with a Canon 5D Mark III with a 15mm Fisheye lens at 1/80, f11 with an 400 ISO. The horizon and color was edited in Photoshop.
