These beautiful timelapse videos (one horizontal and one vertical) are quite different from those we’ve posted recently. Here, Japanese artist Yoshiyuki Katayama employs a bit of editing and/or camera trickery to capture stunning imagery of insects exploring flowers as they bloom.

I’m one of those guys who likes to sit down with a new camera, peruse the manual, familiarize myself with the controls, and configure my custom settings before heading out on a maiden voyage. But shortly after arriving in Newport, RI, to join a group of journalists testing Canon’s new EOS-1D X Mark II flagship professional full frame DSLR, I was handed a camera and a bag of lenses and off we went.

OK, we admit it: We’re so enthralled by the insane 83X focal range of Nikon’s Coolpix P900 superzoom camera that every so often we have to post a demo video, just because. With its amazing built-in 24-2000mm lens, the P900 is impossible to beat if you want to travel light and have compositional options galore.

Photographing fireflies is a “thing” in Japan, where every summer photographers venture out in the early evening to capture these winged insects painting the landscape fantastic. These “lightnin’ bugs” also do their illuminating dance in the Southern United States, so you may want to try photographing their bioluminescence yourself.

Brian Maneely is one such shooter whose Penax K-5 IIs recently survived being doused with fire retardant and then hosed off with water while shooting a California wildfire.
