What’s normal? Not asking about your weird uncle Walter who puts mayonnaise on his French fries—and his spaghetti. When photography went digital, understanding focal lengths became much more difficult. Let’s unravel a few of the mysteries so that we can make better educated decisions about lenses.

Over the past few years there’s been a shift from DSLR cameras to mirrorless models among amateurs and pros alike. But as you’ll see in the video below, it’s still a bit premature to ring the death knell for the trusty DSLR—at least for certain applications.

We’re, generally, not fans of those “What’s in My Camera Bag?” photo essays where photographers run down a bunch of, shall we say, rather typical stuff they bring on a shoot (fast telephoto lenses and memory card organizers, anyone?). But we take exception for Peter McKinnon who has a knack for rounding up a range of creatively useful photography tools we hadn’t thought of before.

Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop are constantly evolving to make these image-editing applications more powerful and easier to use. There is often an abundance new tools, a simplified workflow, and improvements in performance and speed.

It wasn’t so long ago when every camera came with what’s called a normal lens. This, of course, didn’t refer to its mental health, but to the fact that it was the default lens that every photographer would find useful or, in the days before interchangeable lenses, would be stuck with.

One important, yet frequently overlooked, consideration when processing images, is choosing the proper file format for the task at hand. And as you’ll see in the video below, the correct decision isn’t as obvious as you may think.
