The Dinkum Systems COMPACT lens shade ($34.95) is said to be the first shade of its kind for cameras with hot-shoe mounts. Boasting a professional-style aluminum shade and a sturdy flexible arm, the COMPACT lens shade is fast becoming an essential part of a photographer’s kit. Professional shooters love this accessory just as much as the serious amateur. DP Jim Surette replaced the bulky matte box in his pack with a super-light COMPACT lens shade on a recent shoot in the Himalayas, dealing with lens flare quickly and easily in a challenging environment.

LightScribe and LaCie have announced that they are partnering to offer the first
direct disc labeling drive for Macintosh computers. For the first time, Macintosh
customers can burn the data side of a disc, then flip the disc over and burn a
precise, iridescent label with their desired text and graphics using the same
laser that burns the data. No printer, permanent marker or adhesive labeling is
required to develop and burn creative designs onto the CD or DVD.

LightScribe uses the LaCie d2 DVD±RW Double Layer drive's existing
laser to deliver precisely controlled light energy to the disc through an innovative
circular writing system. The light energy causes a visible chemical change in
the dye coating. The result is a high-resolution label image of art, text or photos.
Because the labels are laser etched in a coating applied during disc manufacture,
no ink or adhesive labels are required.

The LaCie d2 DVD±RW Double Layer supports burning a full 4.7GB DVD in about
five minutes, as well as burning to double layer discs that offer twice the capacity.
Easy-to-use DVD creation software allows people to create movies in a matter of
minutes complete with menus, thumbnails and backgrounds. With the LightScribe
technology, customers can also burn a label that is a high-resolution reproduction
of their artwork, text or photos.

LaCie d2 DVD±RW Double Layer drives with LightScribe will be available
in early 2005.

We occasionally provide expert advice on configuring the Photoshop workflow so that it meets your specific needs, and this typically involves revealing hidden features or activating settings that are disabled by default. The tutorial below from the Dansky instructional YouTube channel takes the opposite approach; namely, suggestions for turning off certain settings that one pro says will just slow you down.

Every image in the collection was rescued from rolls of undeveloped film that Bettweiser obtained from a variety of locations across the globe.

Maybe Cuba attracted me most because it was forbidden. If I’m not allowed to go, I want to go. There was also the lure of a place stuck in time, where people were cut off from technology, a place very different from the world I knew. Which is exactly the kind of place I love to explore and photograph.

Here’s a story that should further warm U.S.-Cuba relations. A Cuban diver found an American tourist’s waterproof camera that was lost in the waves off the coast of Cuba two years ago, tracked her down on social media, and returned all her photo and videos.
