This mesmerizing piece reveals a cluster of dried, textured red chilis, their forms suspended in a delicate, almost spectral elegance. The chilis hang from a singular unseen point above, cascading downward to draw the observer into their intricate, layered details.
Captured in the plaza in Santa Fe, New Mexico, as my wife and I strolled around enjoying the sights, I glanced down a covered side passageway and spotted the red chilis. Typically seen in vibrant red, I wanted to do something different, capturing them in infrared to highlight their unique textures and forms. Using my Nikon Z7ii with an 850nm infrared filter, I photographed them at 1/80 sec, f/8, and ISO 2500. The image transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary, blending the dreamlike qualities of infrared photography with the timeless beauty of the scene.
