The Rocky Mountain Arsenal Wildlife Refuge is home to a herd of free-roaming bison. Baby bison are nicknamed "red dogs" because of their light reddish brown color. After a few months, the hair turns dark brown, the horns begin to grow, and the humps on their backs begin to form.
