This photo was actually taken in the early morning. Another photographer kindly pointed out the great horned owl, and I barely had time to set up my tripod before the owl flew off to roost for the day. I photographed this image with a Canon EOS 5D Mark III, Canon EF 500mm f4L, Canon 1.4x extender, f/6.3, 1/2000 second, 2000 ISO. I used Nik Viveza 2 to brighten the owl’s head, and Nik Color Efex Pro 3 to desaturate the background.
