On May 30, 2015 at almost 2 in the morning, my travel mates and I returned to our coastal steamer in the harbor of Tromso, Norway, after a midnight concert in the Arctic Cathedral. From mid May to late July the sun does not dip below the horizon in Tromso which is located more than 3 degrees north of the Arctic Circle.
Back on board we wanted to have a look at the midnight sun, but were surprised by an ice-cold cold rain and a rainbow that suddenly appeared to the west over the Norwegian Sea. I tried to capture images with my Canon 7D but did not have a wide angle lens at hand. Having just learned that day how to use the Pano setting on my iPhone 6+, I decided to give that a try and got this result. There is actually a hint of a double rainbow. The pastel colors of the sky reminded me of a Vermeer painting of the city of Delft, in The Netherlands, where I grew up. It ended up to be one of my favorite pictures of the entire beautiful journey along the coast of Norway.
Camera: iPhone 6+, f/2.2, 29mm aperture.
