This photo shows a group of Southern Carmine Bee-Eaters and the nest holes that they excavated in a sandy bank of the Luangwa River in Zambia. It looks like a tight fit. I wonder -- do they walk backwards to exit the nest? Or can they turn around once inside? The photo was taken with a Nikon D600 and a Nikkor 80-400 mm VR lens at 400 mm. The exposure was f/11 and 1/1600 sec (ISO 800).
