I had seen images of this area before my trip, but I was not prepared for the emotional impact of looking down the road & the sense of "awe." Some people call the Baobab tree the "Upside-down tree" because the tree looks like it has roots sticking up in the air. The trunk of the tree is fibrous. It's bark is cut, pounded & woven into many useful items such as: mats, ropes, fishing nets, fishing lines, sacks & clothing. The tree does not suffer from this practice. It has the ability to continue growing & produce a new layer of bark.
