I spotted this big mule deer buck close to the roadside as I was driving away from a day of deer photography in the Rocky Mountain Arsenal Wildlife National Refuge near Denver, CO. With no time to change to a smaller lens to capture more of the magnificent rack he was displaying before he moved away, all I could do was take a quick grab shot through my car window with the 300mm that was on my camera. But having plenty of “bucks with big antlers” photos, I rather like this “non-traditional” view that shows only part of his massive rack while letting the imagination wonder how much is not seen. Nikon D200, Nikkor f/4 300mm ED, ISO 400, Shutter Priority at 1/500th sec.
