One of my favorite spots to shoot has always been Leo Carrillo State Beach near Malibu, CA. When waves are big, I take a long lens and shoot surfing. When there are no waves I take my Canon 17-40mm and shoot the sunsets. When I arrived with my 17-40mm I spotted this Giant Egret on a rock. By the time I could get my long lens from the car, he would be gone and so would the light! I quietly approached him with my lens at 40mm. The sun cut through the clouds and lit him perfectly just as I got off a shot. He did not stick around for any more exposures.
