A Road Trip Across California Through the Eyes of French Travel Photographer Aurelien Buttin

French photographer Aurelien Buttin has traveled the world, from Europe and Asia to the ruins of Chichen Itza in Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. He recently made a road trip across California with some friends, and did some really nice photography along the way.

A geographer by training, Buttin began experimenting with photography in 2010, and decided to pursue his passion for image making after his first trip throughout Europe.

Since then he’s visited 40 countries on three continents and explored such widely diverse environments as bustling cities, the Saharan desert, volcanoes in Indonesia and the great Caucasus.

His road trip across California included the vibrant cities of Los Angeles and San Francisco, as well as more remote locales like Death Valley and Yosemite.

Whether he’s shooting in urban or wilderness locations, Buttin likes to immerse himself in the culture and values of wherever he happens to be. He pursues a refined, yet often comical esthetic, and frequently thinks of his favorite Victor Hugo quote: “Through every human being, a unique space, an intimate space, opens to the world.”
