Spinner dolphins (Stenella longirostris) are found in tropical waters around the world. They leap out of the water like other dolphins, but unlike the others that arch back to the surface, the spinners often orient themselves nearly perpendicular to the water and rotate about their longitudinal axis before plunging back. (The one in the lower left is just about to spin or has completed a turn.) This photo was taken from a ship in the region of the Aldabra Atoll in the Indian Ocean. A Nikon D300 and a Nikkor 70-300 mm VR lens at 300 mm were used. The exposure was f/8 and 1/1000 sec (ISO 400). Image by Irwin H. Segel.
