I set up a large glass bowl with a slow dripping bag of water all on a black felt with an Orange (orange color in background) sitting behind and above the bowl. I used a blue gel over an LED light at the base of the bowl, another white LED Light shining on the Orange and a radio controlled speedlite, set on manual 1/8 power aimed at the water drop to try to freeze the motion. The camera is a Canon 5D Mark 3 with a Canon MP-E 65mm lense set on Magnification 1 mounted on an Oben MFR4-5 Macro Focusing Rail. The camera settings were ISO 800, 1/125 second, F16. I shot in RAW and used Lightroom 5 for color adjustments. I used a wired remote exposure switch and tried to time the drop hitting the water surface. I shot between 500 and 1000 pictures, most were unusable, but each one was unique.
