I headed down Pacific Coast Highway near Ventura County Line to catch a promising sunset at Leo Carrillo State Beach. Grabbing my Canon 6D and a 17-40mm lens I made the easy trek down to the beach. I left my 100-400mm back in the car since I didn't see any surfers in the water. While scouting a good angle for the sunset I caught glimpse of a Great Egret perched on a rock in the surf. After kicking myself for leaving the long lens behind, I slowly got as close as I could with my wide lens and got off a few shots just as the sun cut through the clouds and lit him perfectly.
Then off he went.
