This photograph was taken in July 2014 on the rarely visited Jan Mayen Island in the Arctic Ocean. A 1990s vintage 28-200 mm Tamron lens at 100 mm was used on a Nikon D600. Exposure was f/9 and 1/200 sec (ISO 800). The original low-contrast image was processed in Photoshop to reveal details in the volcanic landscape. Photograph by Irwin H. Segel, Davis, California.
