My name is George Shearer. My image of the Valley of Fire was taken from an airplane flight to Las Vegas, Nev. at about 20,000-30,000 feet.
Camera used was a Nikon D-80 with a Sigma DC 18-125mm 1:3.5-5.6 D lens set at F/8 and a focal length of 63 mm. Exposure was 1/500 sec. and an ISO of 125. Exposure bias of -0.7 step. on aperture priority with white balance on manual.
The image then was processed in Photomatix and touched up in Adobe Elements 12 for the end result.
The valley is an amazing colorful landscape of red sandstone of a number of shapes and formations. In the summer temperatures can reach around 115 degrees on a sunny day.
