To get this photo I got up at 4:30 am, dealt with the invasion of mosquitoes at the rim of the lake, but luckily the scene unfolded just outside the lodge at Crater Lake National Park. Just before sunrise the color exploded, with red predominating, casting a warm glow on the lake. The landscape was reminiscent of a Frederick Church painting. I used a Nikon D 7100, Nikkor Zoom Lens (18-200 mm.) and a Lee .9 Graduated Neutral density Filter. The ISO was 500, F/14, 1/8th second exposure, with a focal length of 24 mm. I used a Gitzo Tripod with an Arca-Swiss Head. On the two succeeding mornings I was able to capture other sunrises, but they were all surpassed by the intensity of my original shot.
