Cannes leaves taken in Waco, Texas with a Canon 5D MII camera, 24-105 lens set to 96 mm, f/9 and 1/60th second. Camera was mounted on a Gitzo tripod, RRS ball head and shutter release to steady the camera during exposure. The exposure was determined using the spot meter mode on a leaf with a medium shade of green. The histogram indicated satisfactory exposure. The digital image was converted to monotone using Niks Silver Efex. The only enhancement made was minor burning at the bottom edge of the image. When I saw this scene I knew the back lighting would render a far better image in black and white than the multiple tones of greens including the trees in the background. I was right. This image to me jumps off the page in black and white while the color image is bland.
