Living in Southern New England, I've always experienced a brief slump in my nature photography during the transitional period between autumn and winter. Once the trees have shed their leaves, vast stretches of the landscape can become quite drab and uninspiring. Thankfully, the first snowfall of the year gets me back into the swing of things. Our first measurable snowfall came overnight on November 13th this year, dusting the state with as much as three or four inches. Only about an inch fell upon this farmland in Avon, Connecticut... just enough to delicately frost the stubble of harvested cornstalks as the Sun rose over the fields the next morning. (By J. G.
