"We let time cascade over us like a waterfall, believing it to be never-ending. Yet each day that touches us, and every man in the world, is unique..." --Josephine Hart. I visited Fossil Creek yesterday, within hours of discovering that yet another acquaintance of mine had passed away suddenly and much too young. Even though we weren't close friends, her passing affected me and somehow my heart was heavier during my journey. When I finally saw the waterfall, I felt an obligation to appreciate it doubly more, once for myself and once for those who could not be there too. Just before the waterfall fell into complete shadow, the sun's light caught my eye as it was filtered from the side through the surrounding trees and created a diagonal light pattern across the cascading water.
