"Waiting for the Ferry" Canon EOS 70D, 16mm, 1sec, F22, ISO200. A century ago, New Dorp Beach on Staten Island was THE summer resort destination, known as "The Poor Man's Bermuda," for New Yorkers from the other boroughs. They would arrive by ferry and spend an idyllic summer vacation in one of the bungalow colonies, breathing the clean air and swimming on the lovely beaches of Staten Island. Today, all that remains is the beaches, some bungalows, and these remnants of the ferry dock that appear at low tide.
