An 18th Century coffeehouse is built into the grounds of the Boboli Gardens in Florence, Italy. In July of 2001, my wife and I stopped in for a quick lunch. As we waited for service I noticed this couple across the room, sitting quietly, silhouetted by soft afternoon sun.
It looked like a scene from an old movie. What were they thinking; were they just exhausted from the tourist grind, simply enjoying the beauty of the gardens and the city beyond or was there something uncomfortable between them being left unsaid? Carrying two cameras, one loaded with color film the other with black and white, I choose black and white and took a single shot.
I used a Pentax K1000 camera and, to the best of my recollection, a 35 - 70 MM lens. I used an HP scanner to digitize the negative.
