I visited the Tyne Cot Cemetery, near Ypres, Belgium, in April 2016. This was the Western front of World War 1. I tried to convey the emotional impact by increasing the contrast to give the gravestones an almost ghostly white quality. Of the 12,000 gravestones or memorials, only 4,000 of the bodies were ever specifically identified.

The eye is more important than the equipment and, as they say, the best camera is the one you have with you. I was using both my iPhone 6s and Nikon D800 that afternoon, but I took this particular photo with my iPhone and processed it with Snapseed.
