This photo was taken at Twin Lakes in Colorado in the fall of 2016.
I had camped at this beautiful lake, hoping to catch a spectacular sunrise or morning shot. Instead it was overcast and drizzling. Just nasty. There had been about a half dozen other photographers early on but all of them left one by one, driven away by the truly miserable weather. I was the only one left. At midmorning I was getting frustrated too and was just starting to collect my gear and had back, when suddenly the winds died down. That got my attention. Things were changing. And out of nowhere the skies burst open just a bit. Through a hole in the dark grey clouds some sunlight shot through and illuminated the opposite shoreline, bringing the golden aspens to life and creating a perfect mirror image reflection on the now totally quiet surface of the big lake. Pure magic. Especially, since I was the only person left at the lake. These ideal conditions lasted for max. three or four minutes - then the skies closed up again, the wind picked up and it began to drizzle once more.
You know what they say: Good things come to those who can wait.
