Acrylic on Arches Rives BFK 280 gsm 22" x 30" Painted from a doll collection I received from my father in his international travels while I was still a child. I wanted to capture the idea of the different histories of custom and how they can shape our lives. The animate character of the doll, though lifeless in fact, nevertheless carries forward the spirit as if of ages gone past speaking in the present. Much has happened geopolitically and in gender identification since this doll was first given to me. I did not want the feminine speaking through her to be lost.
