If one expects a “noir” scene to project a sense of unease (and not just be one taken in low light and with high monochrome contrast), this iconic image of a (Banyan? Fig? Kapok?) tree swallowing an 800-year old stone structure fits the category -- although it is more "Tomb Raider" than Edward Hopper. The photo was taken at the Ta Prohm temple, Angkor, Cambodia, with a Nikon D300 and a Nikkor 16–85 mm VR lens at 16 mm. Exposure was f/11 and 1/160 sec (ISO 400). The original color image was processed in Photoshop using the Topaz plug-ins InFocus (to sharpen) and ReStyle-Midnight Station (to convert to black & white). The sky texture originated in Alien Skin’s Fluffy Little Clouds. Photographed by Irwin H. Segel, Davis, California.
