Humpback whales crash through the surface of Monterey Bay as they surge through a bait ball of anchovies. We found these three feeding near the surface by following the sea birds. When we see them gathering and diving, we know the whales can't be far behind. Even when we think we know where they'll come up, we never know when, and on a rocking boat, it is always a tough shot to get right.
