In January of 2014 Hawaii had one of the biggest swells in 30 years. Visitors and locals alike went to witness the spectacle. I went to Lumahai river mouth beach to shoot the waves crashing into the rocky point to submit to local Hawaii T.V. and there were many visitors out on the wet sandy beach watching and taking pictures. We who live here know that wet sand means waves have washed there recently so I was standing on a little 2 foot sand cliff above the beach. I could see that a big set of waves were coming in on top of each other raising the water level just like a small tsunami. I yelled "grab the little girl" who was away from her mom (I was recovering from surgery and not capable of helping). So I kept shooting. People on the beach were not aware of how much danger they were in but fortunately there were no serious injuries. The little girl was quite scared and shook up after being tumbled under the wave (see shot No2) These photos have been shown on local TV several times to remind visitors to respect the ocean.
I don't have model release, but this being NEWS I have never needed them.
