I spent two hours working this scene to find the right composition and lighting. It was a freezing cold sunset on January 20, 2020. Fortunately my cold weather gear and photography gloves helped me handle the 25+ mph wind gusts. To get this shot I used a Nikon D750 with the Tamron 24-70mm G2 lens. I had a 6-stop ND filter combined with a circular polarizer which allowed me to slow the shutter speed to 1/15s. Aperture was f22 since the Tamron lens provides nice subtle sunstars. I spent most of my time with this composition trying to time the shutter with the wave action. I really wanted to capture the image I envisioned which had a series of evenly spaced waves rolling into the shore. I wanted to have the correct shutter speed to ensure I captured a soft sense of motion with the waves. Overall I am very happy with the result. The time spent in the frigid conditions was well worth it!
