Birds that visit our feeders over the years drop sunflower seeds as they eat, and this resulting beauty is one of many that came up last spring. The bud will tilt to follow the sun until it blooms, and eventually unfurl with others into a plethora of smiling yellow faces.
The colour photo is awash in various shades of green that are interesting in themselves, but the conversion to black-and-white made this young specimen something special.
